Welcome Octavia!
(Hand feeds every four hours, with a special mix I've made upon recommendation.)
Just a brief update.
Currently in a custody name battle... Matt wants to call it Gary...(men!) ... I want to call it Octavia...
But anyway we are welcoming them to our family.
A maximum of three weeks old, OCTAVIA is an orphaned baby pigeon, or possibly dove Matt found in our back garden.
Her brother or sister not far away, mauled by a cat.
We observed her for half a day, giving mum or dad a chance to come back...but with cats still on the prowl, we made the decision (unlightly) to take her in.
We took her to our local vets, who were absolutely appalling.
Apparently her chance of survival was too low to even bother with her, so they said they would take her out back and euthanise her.
Telling them no, we took on the responsibility to give her the best fighting chance possible.
Even if she dies, it was worth giving her a shot at life.
We'll do our best by her.
Anyone with experience hand rearing, I could do with some advice towards teaching her to fly, and getting her ready for release.
I'm only handling her at feed times, so she's not having excessive human contact.
Leave a comment if you have any suggestions :)
